  • Job Fair for Wilmington Katrina Evacuees was held CFVC with Phoenix Employment Ministry will hold a job fair was held on October 12 at the Convention Center from 10-3 thanks to Don Skinner at Phoenix Employment Ministry for offering this wonderful opportunity to not only Katrina evacuees but to the general public that attended as well. Thanks to the more than two dozen employers that attended as well. What a wonderful contribution to the program and to the community.

  • On Sunday, October 2, 2005 all evacuees were invited to attend a gathering at the Greenfield Lake Ampitheatre for a "Family Photo" of all new Wilmingtonians, food, give-aways and fun was had by all. Family photos of nuclear families will be distributed as soon as they are developed by the volunteer center director.

 

  • The Cape Fear Volunteer Center is accepting names, phone numbers and emails of teams of 5-10 that are prepared to go into Mobile and Biloxi with Samaritans Purse to assist with tree removal and flood related projects. Interested organized teams can call the volunteer center at 799-9321 or email aanthony@ec.rr.com. At this time no organized effort is available to go into New Orleans. We will advise when one is available. Volunteers of all types can register anytime as regular activities continue and all volunteers are welcome to contribute. 

 

Kattrina Dogs to Arrive 

  • Plans are being solidified for the dogs from the Katrina area to arrive in Wilmington around the 6th or 7th of October. Many of you who have offered to volunteer with feeding, walking and cleaning have been contacted to determine the time you can help. If we have not contacted you, and you are still interested in helping volunteers are needed from as early as 7 am to as late as 9 or 10 pm for feeding, walking and cleaning kennels, 7 days a week. We plan to house the dogs for up to 14 days and will be seeking foster homes as well. If you can help for 1 hour on 1 day a week, your time would be appreciated. If you can assist for longer periods of time that would help. The times we are looking for assistance are Monday through Sunday: 7 am to 8 am 8 am to 9 am 9 am to 10 am Noon to 1 pm 1 pm to 2 pm 2 pm to 3 pm 7 pm to 8 pm 8 pm to 9 pm 9 pm to 10 pm Please let me know which day and times you would like to help if you have not done so already. Foster homes are needed for the animals for up to 180 days. Anyone fostering must accept the fact that the goal is to reunite the dogs with their owners. A foster application is attached.
