Assistance for a Ukrainian Family

We are partnering to assist a Ukrainian family seeking refuge in Wilmington NC. They are fleeing with very few possessions/necessities/clothing. The sponsor family will host them in their home until they get jobs etc. Let's help welcome and acclimate the family by donating some basic needs. Any questions can be sent to myself at [email protected], or post below. This will be a long term need and opportunity, you can participate once or more. Once they arrive on January 7th we will need people willing to translate, show them around, acclimate them to our grocery stores etc.. I will post volunteer sign ups for some of the opportunities other than clothing/possessions/ donations in the next few weeks. Stay tuned and thank you for helping.
(Sizes are in Ukraine, conversions welcome)

Girl: Zlata. 11 years old. height 141 cm.
Foot size 36 ukr. foot length 22 cm. (Slim build)

Boy: Liubomyr, 10 years old, need to look at clothes for 8-9 years old. Height 134 cm. Foot size 35 ukr. Foot length 21.5 cm.(Slim build)

Dad: Viktor. Height 170 cm. Clothing size 48-50 Ukrainian. XL.
Foot size 40-41 ukr. Jeans on one size W30 L30, on the other W32 L32.

Mom: Inna. Height 165 cm. Clothing size 46-48 Ukrainian.  L.
Foot size 39-40 Ukrainian. Jeans W27-28

One of the things they'll need fairly soon upon arrival is winter clothes. They mainly need: sweaters, pants, socks for winter.

The host family would definitely love some help with food. They haven't fed a family of four in many years. So canned goods, gift cards to grocery stores. Anything would be great!

CFVC, a 501c3, is handling the donations, so anything you donate will be tax deductible according to IRS Rules, check with your accountant.

Thank you for helping.

It Takes a Village

Profile of a Little Buddy:

Andrew (“AJ”) is a 17 year old young man who has been part of the Cape Fear Volunteer Center 's Big Buddy program since the age of 6. He is currently a Senior at Hanover High here in Wilmington.

He lives with his Adoptive Grandmother, Rose, since 2010.  Rose is originally from Mississippi and moved here to Wilmington in 1990, she also works part-time as a CNA and Caregiver. Rose first took “guardianship” of AJ and his brother and sister when the children’s natural parents (Rose’s daughter) were unable to care for the children and have since been fully adopted.

AJ loves Surfing with IndoJack Surf Camp and till recently, played golf with a gentleman who goes by “Mr. Jake” who
recruited students interested in golf and taught them the game (the lessons got moved to Sunday mornings and that interfered with Church, so AJ discontued the game for now.) He has also been active with the “Explore” Mentor Program hosted by the Wilmington Sheriffs’ Department.

When AJ graduates next Spring, he plans to enter the Army immediately. He has been mentored by a local Sergeant Bradly about the process of enlisting.  AJ would very much like to travel far across the globe for his service time…maybe Japan.  He wishes to initially do his 4 years of service to include college studies and become an officer. AJ is excited to start his new life in the Army and as Rose said “AJ wants to see the World…Make Money…and build his Mom a House”!!!

In the below photos, first photo is AJ with his sister, second is of AJ alone, and 3rd is his grandmother Rose.
